Book Review: The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

The Scorpio RacesThe Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first book I’ve read by Maggie Stiefvater, even though I’ve followed her on twitter for a long time and was a fan of her writing tips and humor. This book did not disappoint. I can clearly see how talented she is.

The Scorpio Races brought me on a very unique ride. At times, it was soft and introspective, giving me a ton of insight into who “Puck” and Sean are. Other times, it was intense and gripping when the capaill uisce, AKA myth-inspired water horses, were in action. These horse-like creatures are predators, but are caught in an attempt to tame them and race them in the annual Scorpio Races, a dangerous race across the beach. But they are never truly tame and the sea always calls to them.

I also need a November cake, now!

This is a Young Adult novel, not for young children.

I’m definitely going to read more of Maggie Stiefvater’s work.
